Money and costs

Cambodia's currency is the Riel (KHR). In recent years, ATMs have spread even outside the largest cities. They allow withdrawals of US dollars using the most famous international cards: Maestro, Cirrus, Plus, VISA.

ACCOMMODATION

There are guest houses family or the like for all minimally touristic places in Cambodia. A vivid image of ubiquity emerges at the exit of the fast boat connecting Phnom Penh to Siem Reap, when dozens of representatives emerge to pick up passengers who have made advance reservations or convince those who arrive unprepared to follow them.

Expect to pay in this type of accommodation from €4 to €7 per double room per night without hot water, towels or air conditioning included. For a double room with air conditioning, hot water, towels and better conditions in general, aim for €7 to €25 per night. In one of the intermediate (3 or 4 star) chain hotels the price rises to €70 to €120 per night and in one of the finest resorts in Siem Reap, just outside Angkor, expect to pay double or triple.

FOOD

In terms of fame, Cambodian food is miles from Thai, which is not to say that it won't surprise you very positively. At least outside the touristic Siem Reap, it is expected that you will find market snacks for a mere €0,50 and in simpler restaurants, a full meal starts at €2. If you choose one of the Khmer, other Asian cuisine or sophisticated international restaurants, expect to pay from €10 to €15, which turns into €40 to €60 if you are within the most luxurious resorts in Siem Reap.

INTERNET

Wi-fi networks are increasingly popular and appear all over the place, not only in guest houses, hotels and resorts, but also in bars and restaurants. At the same time, internet cafes are also booming, still with very merciful prices for foreign users, from €0,30 to €0,60 per hour of browsing.

SIM cards can cost less than €1. Pens (USB sticks) and modems purchased from €12 to €25 allow access to 3G/4G in Phnom Penh, Sihanoukville and other larger cities. In other locations further away from urban areas, the speeds can prove hopeless.
